Philippines wall-system buyer's guide
Most AAC block prices in the Philippines are quoted per piece. But a wall is paid for per square metre. This guide shows how to convert any AAC block quotation into a fair price per m², how it compares with CHB, and when a lightweight wall panel is the better choice.
Vodapruf manufactures vPanel lightweight wall panels, not AAC blocks. We wrote this guide so you can compare every wall option on the same basis before you buy.
vPanel Short Panel · 1.5 m lengthAAC blocks in the Philippines are usually 600 × 200 mm on the face, so a square metre of wall takes about 8.33 blocks. Multiply the per-piece price by 8.33, then add adhesive, labour, skim coat and delivery to get the real cost per m². Compare that number, never the price of one block.
Start with the specification
Thickness should come from the wall design: internal partition, external wall, fire or acoustic requirement.
| Item | Common reference | What to ask the supplier |
|---|---|---|
| Face size | 600 mm long × 200 mm high | Exact dimensions and tolerance |
| Thickness | 100, 125, 150, 200 and 250 mm | Which thickness the consultant's wall schedule requires |
| Strength grade | Several grades, often stated in psi | Declared compressive strength and density for the named product |
| Blocks per m² | 8.33 (plus cutting allowance) | Quantity per pallet and delivery charge |
| Bedding | Thin-bed adhesive, about 3–5 mm | Adhesive coverage per bag and price |
Dimensions and grades vary by manufacturer. Follow the selected product's current data sheet and your consultant's specification.
The most common pricing mistake
Comparing ₱20-something per CHB with ₱150-something per AAC block makes AAC look many times more expensive. The two blocks cover different wall areas, so the comparison is meaningless until both are converted to price per square metre.
| Example (150 mm wall) | Calculation | Result per m² |
|---|---|---|
| Block quoted at ₱200 per piece | ₱200 × 8.33 | ≈ ₱1,666 material |
| Add thin-bed adhesive | Coverage per bag ÷ bag price | Ask supplier |
| Add laying labour and skim coat | Contractor rate per m² | Ask contractor |
| Add delivery and 3–5% waste | Per load, per site | Ask supplier |
| Installed cost per m² | Sum of the lines above | Compare this number |
The ₱200 figure is an example to show the method, not a quotation. Public per-piece listings checked in October 2026 ranged from about ₱117 (100 mm) to about ₱467 (250 mm) depending on thickness and grade.
Compare the whole wall
Each wall system has a place. The right one depends on budget, programme, layout and site access.
| Per m² of wall | CHB | AAC block | vPanel ALC panel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pieces to lay | 12.5 | 8.33 | About 0.55 (3 m panel) |
| Bedding | 10–15 mm cement mortar | 3–5 mm thin-bed adhesive | Jointing mortar |
| Finishing | Plaster both faces | Skim coat | Skim coat |
| Weight | Heaviest | Lighter | About 48 kg/m² at 100 mm |
| Heat in the room | Stores and releases heat | Better insulation | 0.1375 W/m·K |
| Best for | Budget houses, no deadline | Mid-range and premium homes | Factories, warehouses, condos, hotels |
How to choose
Material cost is the deciding factor and there is no fixed completion date.
You want cooler, lighter walls but the layout is detailed, with many openings and short returns.
Walls are long, repeated and on the critical path of the programme.
The option most buyers are never quoted
Instead of laying 8 AAC blocks or 12 hollow blocks per square metre, a reinforced lightweight panel covers the wall in large sections. Fewer pieces means fewer joints, less adhesive and less labour.
Frequently asked questions
A standard AAC block has a 600 × 200 mm face, so one square metre of wall needs about 8.33 blocks, whatever the thickness. Add a small allowance for cutting and waste. For comparison, a 400 × 200 mm hollow block needs 12.5 pieces per square metre.
Public per-piece listings checked in October 2026 ranged from about ₱117 for 100 mm to about ₱467 for 250 mm, depending on thickness and strength grade. Prices change with cement and freight costs, so always ask for a current quotation and convert it to price per m².
AAC block is lighter, cooler and faster to finish than CHB, but costs more per square metre in material. CHB remains a sensible choice for budget houses. AAC earns its premium where programme, heat and dead weight matter.
Most Philippine listings use a 600 × 200 mm face with thicknesses from 100 mm to 250 mm, often in several strength grades. Pick the thickness from the wall design, not from price.
No. Vodapruf manufactures vPanel, a reinforced lightweight concrete wall panel. This guide helps you compare blocks fairly and shows when a panel wall may suit your project better.
Higher material cost than CHB, the need for thin-bed adhesive and proper fixings, and careful detailing against water at sills, parapets and splash zones. None is a deal-breaker if the wall is specified correctly.
